Do photographers get their own family photos?
The answer is a big, wholehearted yes.
People often ask if photographers ever have professional photos taken of their own families.
We do. At least, I certainly do.
Even though photography is my job, I'm usually the one behind the camera. When it comes to my own family, I don't want to be missing from our story.
Over the years, we've invested in documenting each chapter of our lives. From engagement, our wedding day, to maternity, to welcoming both of our babies, and the family sessions we've had as they've grown.
Every one of these milestones was photographed by another professional photographer, and I’ve captured plenty of my boys ourselves.
Because while I know how to take the photo, I can't be in it at the same time.
More importantly, I want to be fully present with my family, not worrying about camera settings, timers or whether everyone is looking in the right direction.
These photographs are some of our most treasured possessions. They're the images hanging on our walls, the albums we pull out with the kids, and the memories I know they'll look back on one day.
They're proof that I was there too.
So if you've ever wondered whether professional photographers value professional family photos...
We really do.
Because no matter what side of the camera you're usually on, your family deserves to have their story told, and you deserve to be part of it.
